Weston finished only 4th in the Somerset League in 1984 (Eddie Langford scored 851 league runs at 60.75). However, the side full of local talent, reached the semi-final of the William Younger Cup by beating Evesham, Gloucester, Keynsham, Stapleton, Paignton & Reading before losing to Bishop Stortford. Simon Turner was contracted to play for Somerset. Also, in 1984, the 2nd XI won the Somerset League 2nd XI Championship and the Somerset 2nd XI K.O. Cup under Mark Biddle. The Falcons won Division 1 of the North Somerset League under Bob Hedges, and the Eaglets under Jamie Harris won Division 3.

On February 20th 1985, the Sports Hall was opened by F. R. Brown, President of N.C.A. David Stewart was made a Hon Life Member for his committee work on this project. Weston won the Somerset Premier League in their final season in that league. Richard Harden, later a Somerset regular, hit Weston’s only league century. Weston, in 1985, also won the County Alliance K.O. Cup the year before joining that league. The successful 2nd XI did the Somerset League and Cup double again, and also won the County Alliance Minor Cup. The Falcons won the North Somerset League Cup.

In 1986, Weston battled their way to the Lord’s Final against Stourbridge in the William Younger National Club Championship, but lost (full details of this day are shown elsewhere) Weston won the County Alliance League at the first time of asking. Paul Bail hit 174 for Cambridge in the Varsity match at Lord’s. He also hit 218 for Weston against Optimists, in the TNT Overnite 60-overs semi-final (Weston lost in the final to Swindon) to become only Weston’s 3rd double centurion in the history of the club.

There was an anti-climax year in 1987. The 1st and 2nd XIs both finished second in their final year of belonging to the County Alliance League, but still won the Alliance Cup. Over the years since 1965, Weston Youth sides have won many cups and leagues from Under 17s down to Under 11s, and 1987 was no exception. The U17s won the North Somerset League and Cup, and the U15s were ‘Sun Life’ Champions of Somerset.

In 1988, Weston-super-Mare CC & Swindon CC were, at last, re-invited to join the Western League. Both did so, despite some sense of disloyalty to the Alliance League. Weston 1st XI finished a credible 6th , and Weston 2nd XI 3rd in their first season in the Western Leagues. The 2nd XI also won the Alliance Minor Cup.

1989 saw Weston 1st XI finish 2nd in the Western League. Paul Bail hit 741 league runs and Simon Turner 655. Dave Hill broke the Western League bowling record with 74, but he was overtaken that season by Chris Pringle (Stroud & New Zealand) who took a wonderful 83. The 1st XI also won the Alliance Cup. Weston 2nd XI won the Western 2nd XI League in 1989. Rob Murray hit 836 League runs, Skipper Mark Biddle took 47 league wickets & Mike Wallage 45.
